NAPO: Increased Funding to Urban Search and Rescue Teams Program

On June 6, 2012 the House approved (by voice vote) Congressman Michael Grimm’s amendment to increase funding by $7.5 million to the Urban Search and Rescue Teams Program. NAPO supports this legislation because it will free up money for local police departments.

Over the past week NAPO was on Capitol Hill meeting with Congressman Dave Reichert’s (R-WA) office. Congressman Reichert is the cochairman of the House Law Enforcement Caucus.  We also meet with the offices of Congressman Michael Grimm (R-NY) and Jon Runyan (R-NJ). On the other side of the Hill, NAPO met with Senator Amy Klobuchar’s (D-MN) staff to lobby the Senator to introduce a Senate companion to H.R. 1789, The State and Local Law Enforcement Discipline, Accountability, and Due Process Act.

NAPO will continue to provide information on these topics and more. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact NAPO’s Director of Government Affairs, Rachel Hedge via email or phone 703-549-07745.
