Member Action: National Blue Alert

The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to mark up H.R. 365, The National Blue Alert Act of 2011 on Wednesday, April 25th. NAPO anticipates the mark up to amend the House bill to make it similar to the Senate Bill, S. 657.  This will make passage of a National Blue Alert more likely in the 112th Congress.

The National Blue Alert Act of 2011, would establish a National Blue Alert communications network within the Department of Justice to disseminate information when a law enforcement officer is seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.

In December, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) asked unanimous consent that the Senate passes S. 657, however it was objected to anonymously. NAPO worked in the Senate on the successful passage of the National Blue Alert from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Below is a sample letter for you to send to your Congressman in support of the National Blue Alert.
