Important Meet and Confer Information

Important Meet and Confer

November 16, 2009, the Mesa City Council adopted a Meet and Confer policy for sworn Officers. MPA has pushed for this decades and finally, it has arrived.

What does it means?

·         Protection for you and your family’s benefits and pay.

·         Reasonable working conditions.

·         A memorandum of understanding serving as a contract.

·         Better accountability of management.

·         One police organization representing you.

How it will work?

In essence, we need you to vote for MPA twice. The first time will be a signature card for MPA to qualify to be a candidate and the final actual vote will require you to cast a ballot in person. MPA needs your participation in both to represent you. The election will occur as follows:

You will receive a petition signature card in your department inter-office mailbox. Place a check mark voting for Mesa Police Association to represent you, sign and date it. Place it into one of the ballot boxes at your station or work site.

When the MPA receives 30 % of sworn Officers/Sergeants signature cards, this qualifies MPA to request the City Manager to hold an election.

The City Manager will declare an election. Officers must physically go down to the City Clerk’s Office while off-duty or on break, show your ID and cast a voting ballot for the MPA. 60% of the total number of sworn Officers/Sergeants must cast a vote for the election results to count.

The group receiving the majority of votes (if 60% is reached) will be declared the representative of Sworn Officer/Sergeants.
