MPA welcomes new board members

Effective August 1, 2006 with the promotion of Joe Shelley to Lieutenant, Fabian Cota will assume the position of resident of the MPA for the remainder of the term. We would like to thank Joe for all the hard work he has contributed to the MPA and the Mesa Police Department during his tenure as President. We would like to congratulate him on his promotion and look forward to his continued involvement in the MPA. Joe will remain the president of the Arizona Police Association and will continue with his legislative work. Rick Perine has been appointed to fill the Vice-President position, congratulations to Rick!

Survey results

The MPA would like to thank all of the people that responded to the recent e-mail survey in reference to the makeup of the employee groups. The survey was an important step in demonstrating to the City Manager that sworn police employees want to be represented as a separate group. There were 299 responses to the survey, 279 wanted sworn as a separate group, and 20 wanted sworn and civilian as a single group. This clear majority is representative of a similar survey the MPA conducted in 2004.

September general membership meeting

In September the MPA will holding our yearly general membership meeting. We would like to encourage members to attend to find out what the MPA has been doing. This will also be a good time to greet your new President and Vice-President, and to come by and show our thanks to departing President Joe Shelley. The date, time, and location of the meeting will be forthcoming.
