Arizona Republic: 2 from Phoenix vying for Mesa Chief job

Fabian Cota, President of the Mesa Police Association quoted:

Cota said he’s polling his members on which of the five finalists they support for chief and hopes to tabulate the results sometime in early January.

“An internal candidate is in the best position to know what needs to be done and to get to work on it right away,” Cota said.

While Soller said he supports any of the three internal candidates, Cota said MPA members appear to overwhelmingly back Mesa Assistant Chief John Meza.

“He’s seen as a fair disciplinarian. He has an established record of getting things done,” Cota said. “These guys trust him. That’s big when you lead someone into harm’s way.”
